Encharter Insurance - Amherst, previously known as Blair, Cutting & Smith, is proud to be one of the oldest companies in Western Massachusetts!

Founded in 1879, we have a long history of providing products and services to our local community. Since our acquisition in 1999 by Plymouth Rock Assurance Corporation, we have expanded our offices to four Massachusetts and three Connecticut branch offices.

Previously located in two historic downtown buildings, we recently moved to our brand new facility at 25 University Drive in Amherst (next to Rafters)!

Lexington, MA

Encharter Insurance - Lexington, previously known as MacNeil Insurance, was established by John MacNeil in 1939 to serve the insurance needs in Lexington and the neighboring communities. In 1966, the agency was purchased by the Town Crier Group who then sold the agency to Daniel Lucas in 1981. In 2001 the agency was purchased by Plymouth Rock Assurance Corporation and merged into Neighborhood Insurance, LLC along with Blair, Cutting and Smith Agency in Amherst and W.G. Leavitt Agency in Stoneham and Wilmington. In 2006, the Neighborhood Insurance, LLC name was changed to Encharter Insurance Group. Previously located at 15 Depot Square, the agency was moved to Custance Place on Bedford Street in 2001 then back down into Lexington Center at 1666 Mass Ave. in 2005.

Reading, MA

Encharter Insurance - Reading, previously known as W.G. Leavitt & Son Insurance Agency and Miceli Insurance, was started originally in 1938 by Walter Leavitt and was operated from his home on Pond Street in Stoneham. Walter’s son, Donald W. Leavitt, joined the firm in 1948 and began full time management and sales responsibilities for the agency after leaving the United States Air Force in 1954. Mr. Herbert M Jones joined the firm in 1961, after being a salesman for Liberty Mutual for many years. Mr. Jones remained active in the agency as a salesman, and also Vice President, until he retired in 1986. The agency incorporated as WG LEAVITT & SON INSURANCE AGENCY, INC. In 1963, and appointed Donald W Leavitt as President and Treasurer of the new corporation. Donald served in this capacity until his retirement in September of 2000. In 1973, the agency hired Mr. James R Miceli, also a successful salesman for Liberty Mutual, appointing him Vice President and office manager of the branch office in Wilmington which was opened a short while thereafter. The branch office is now known as Miceli Insurance, Encharter Insurance LLC, and is one of our sister agencies. The agency was acquired by the Plymouth Rock Assurance Corporation in September 2000, and is now a member of the Encharter Insurance Group.

Miceli Insurance Agency, L.L.C.

Miceli Insurance is a full service agency offering personal, business and life insurance products. The agency was started in Stoneham, Massachusetts in 1938. In 1975, James R. Miceli, who began his insurance career in 1958, opened the office at its present location in Colonial Park Mall, Wilmington and it was known as W.G. Leavitt & Son Insurance. In 2005, the name was changed to Miceli Insurance and is a part of Encharter Insurance LLC.
