Twitter Tips Everyone knows how important hashtags are on Twitter. However, I think we have all seen many people (and companies) not understand the proper use of them.  There’s so many “don’ts”
when it comes to hashtags, but what exactly are the “do’s”?  While it’s great to use broad hashtags such as “Auto Insurance” in our case, but if you want to start a more unique hashtag,
here are some tips:

  • Choose something unique. Do a search on Twitter to make sure no one else is using the same hashtag. Whether it’s for a contest, chat, or new product, choose something unique that won’t be used by competitors. Make sure it is specific to the message you are trying to get across, but also short enough.
  • Choose something easy to remember. Make it unique, but if you get too detailed or complicated no one
will remember it! There’s a lot of hashtags out there, don’t create something hard to pronounce or spell, make it clear. Something like an acronym can be perfect because it doesn’t take up too much space, but people can easily make the connection.
  • Use it on several social media venues. People can’t use your hashtag if they haven’t heard about it or don’t know what it means. Make sure, especially if it is a contest, that your hashtag can also be found (and is explained) on venues like Facebook, Google+, and Pinterest. It may take seeing a hashtag a couple times to remember it so give your audience enough exposure to the hashtag.
  • Make sure your hashtag isn’t already being used. Search for your hashtag on Twitter to make sure it doesn’t
have a different meaning for a different company or worse, that it’s already being used by a competitor! Also, see what people are talking about in relation to the hashtag already to make sure you’re involved in a conversation you want to be a part of. What are your hashtag do’s and don’ts?

Why February Has 28 Days

You ever wonder why February is the one “off” month in the bunch? It is a commonly asked question usually answered with a shrug and then instantly forgetting about the subject. Fortunately, due to some detective work, we have uncovered a few theories as to why February is the odd one in the dozen.

Augustus Jealousy – Rumor has it that Julius Caesar was honored with the month of July with 31 days. Augustus Caesar was honored with August which only had 30 days in the month. To fix this, Augustus stole a day from February to make the months equal. Even emperors aren’t immune to some old fashion envy.

10th Month Calendar – Another theory states that the Roman Calendar only had 10 months, March – December. Numa Pompilius added two extra months to shorten them and avoid any unlucky numbers (even numbers) he made the calendar with seven 31 day months, four 29 day months, and February had to bear the brunt by being 28 days. The reason February got the rough end of the calendar stick was that it was the last month of the year and very cold.

Whether or not you want to believe these theories, it is still interesting to think about how decisions thousands of years ago still affect us today. Regardless of whatever you choose to believe, we can all agree that history can be quite quirky at times.  Make sure that February is a safe month for you no matter how short it is.  Give us a ring at Encharter and we can help you out with any questions you may have with anything from New Jersey Home Insurance to specialty insurance!

Why it’s Dangerous Driving with a Cold

Feeling under the weather? Well, that may be as bad as being under the influence if you’re behind the wheel. That’s right; a study recently found that driving with a cold is similar to drunk driving. Drivers with a heavy cold, especially those that are feeling groggy can experience slower your reaction times. It may also cause you to have trouble stopping and even drive too close to the vehicle in front of you, all things you would also experience while driving under the influence.  Also, when you sneeze you are being forced to look away from the road for up to three seconds. Given all of these factors, you may want to think twice about driving next time you get a heavy cold.

It seems that we can now add drivers that have colds to the lists of distracted drivers on the road. As the list grows longer, it becomes even clearer that unfortunately we cannot control what sort of distractions others have while driving. The one thing we can control is our protection against those drivers on the road.
