Winter Events in CT: From Mashantucket to Woodbury
Connecticut friends, there is so much winter fun happening all over your state. Whether you are looking to stay warm indoors doing something like taking in art or you want to head outside for an adventure, there’s something for everyone. Gather the family, get together with friends, or head out solo to one of these exciting events in Connecticut happening this weekend and for the most part throughout February.
Here are some exciting things to do in Connecticut:
Tubing at Woodbury Ski Area (all winter)
Woodbury Ski Area has the largest snow tubing park in CT. All of this snow, why not make the most of it? Take the kids tubing! Tubing is fun for the whole family and lets you enjoy some trails without renting equipment, paying for expensive ski passes and even lessons. A two hour session at Woodbury Ski Area is only $34, includes the session and tube. There are several sessions throughout the day: 9:00-11:00am, 11:00-1:00pm, 1:00-3:00pm, and 3:00-5:00pm. There are three different snow tubing parks and it is lit up for night use.

Annual Big Y “Kids Fair”, Hartford, CT (January 31st- February 1st)
Looking to get the kids out of the house, but not looking to deal with the chilly temperatures and snow covered sidewalks? Take them to the Big Y Kids’ Fair at the Convention Center this weekend. There’s lots of shopping to be done for the kids, but also entertainment, games, prizes and more. Saturday the fair will be 10am to 5pm and on Sunday its hours are 10am to 4pm.Tickets are just $10 for Adults and $5 for Kids.

Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, CT
An art museum always makes for a fun day, but even more when there are some amazing new exhibits opening. On January 31, 2015 the Post War and Contemporary art galleries will re-open after being renovated and reinstalled. The exhibit includes artists like Kiki Smith and Andy Warhol. In addition, that same day the Coney Island: Visions of an American Dreamland exhibit is also opening. Want to check out Wadsworth Atheneum for yourself? Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for students, and free for children under $12. Too pricey? The first Thursday of the month from 5:00-8:00pm is always just $5.

Outdoor Ice Rink at Foxwoods Resort & Casino, Mashantucket, CT
Day trips at Foxwoods may have more to offer than you think. If slot machines and table games isn’t your thing there is still plenty of fun to be had. Of course the shopping and restaurants are impressive, but there’s even more! Now until March 8th they have a cozy outdoor skating rink. Adults pay a $10 ice fee, $5 skate rental and children pay a $6 ice fee and $2 skate rental. The rink is surrounded by fire pits with Adirondack chairs which make the perfect spot for sipping hot chocolate. Hours are Monday through Thursday 2:00 pm-9:00 pm, Friday 2:00 pm-10:00 pm, Saturday 11:00 am-10:00 pm, and Sunday 11:00 am -9:00pm.
